Refrigerator Repair Service TipsIn a self-defrosting refrigerator, poor cooling often results from a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel inside your freezer. But if you see any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, ceiling or floor of your freezer, it's a sure sign of frost build-up, and that's a sign of a problem with the self-defrosting system.
Defrost Problem SympthonsThe most common symptom of a defrost system failure is a complete and uniformly frosted (not iced) evaporator coil. Frost may also be visible on the panel covering the evaporator, usually in the rear of the freezer compartment.
Excessive frosting can be caused by the defrost heater or bi-metal (defrost thermostat) being open (defective), a mechanical defrost timer sticking and never advancing into the defrost cycle, an adaptive defrost or main board or one of its sensors failing to allow the defrost heaters to be energized. Ice Maker Repair TipsIf your ice maker starts to make hollow ice cubes, this is a sign to check water filters or change the supply valve. You may also notice low pressure from your water dispenser.
